Ezio Lipott, Italian journalist, author and renowned tennis tournament organizer, has died at the young age of 65. He suffered a heart attack and died in his sleep at his home in Trieste on Thursday September 25. He leaves a wife, Laura and a daughter, Sigrid. The news shocked colleagues and friends round the world. AITJ President Bojan Budha sent his condolences on behalf of the whole
association and arranged for a garland of flowers to be sent to the funeral. Adalberto Minazzi, Italy team captain and AITJ General
Secretary, praised Ezio's ability as a writer, tennis-player and tournament organizer. He said: "Ten years ago Ezio organised the 1st
Alpe Adria Cup in Umag, Croatia. Since then Umag has become an annual joyful occasion for journalists from all the European countries. Ciao Ezio."

Vladimir Anicinov, the captain of Macedonia and one of Ezio's best friends, was distraught. He said: "The sad news shook me harder than an earthquake. An enormous loss. A catastrophe." Vladimir commented that Ezio was "an angel, a man with a noble soul and
a big heart. A humanitarian, a friend who reached out so unimposing, so silently to every one."
Ezio Lipott was born on July 10, 1943. He graduated in political science at the University of Trieste with a degree thesis on
journalism. He became a professional journalist in 1978 for 'Il Piccolo', the newspaper of his home town, Trieste. He later became Sports Editor. Ezio Lipott wrote a lot of books chiefly about the sporting associations in Trieste. The last book released last summer was entitled 'The Olympic Athletes of Friuli Venezia Giulia'. As a young man he played for the football Club, Triestina. He took up tennis and won titles in the Italian Championships for Journalists. In 2001 Ezio was the organizer of the last AITJ World Tennis Championships held in Italy, at Grado. This and his Alpe Adria Cup events are his epitaph.
